The Chicago Transportation Authority (CTA) has been facing severe budget crunches and possible reductions in service for many years now. Each year the CTA must go through many contortions to keep operating and finally they are very seriously facing drastic cut-backs in service including elimination of weekend service and express service along many lines. I heard on the TV that the Illinois governor Blagovich has recommended that there could be a permanent funding solution but that this hasn’t been worked out yet.

CTA Budget hearings are scheduled throughout the Chicago area and suburbs. If this issue concerns you it would be wise to attend one of these meetings.
