As many people have commented, the map of visitors to a web site frequently shows no visitors from Africa. We have looked into this issue and have concluded the following:
While it is true that computer and Internet use is lower in Africa than other continents, the issue about showing visitors from this area i.e. identifying the lat/lon they are coming from is compounded by another factor.
Many Internet services in Africa whether wired or not are frequently using a local network that is funneled through a Satellite IP Address. The Internet Satellite company may be based in the Ukraine or other former eastern USSR country and thus all your visitors from Africa appear to be Ukranian on the map.
Another issue is that satellites are always moving. If we have a 3-D map and actual satellite location information, we would depict all of this as well as the incomes and the number of kids each visitor to your web site contains.
Another major issue is that some people are surfing the internet while they are jogging, while this can be accounted and corrected for in the U.S. since most Americans are pretty slow, in Kenya they run very fast while they are on eBay.
So I hope this puts to rest that question and we look forward to explaining more about our service in upcoming posts.
MapVisitors Administration.
